ABC is a software format for displaying written music.
To access the music:
1) Download the EasyABC software from here, and install it.
2) Download any abc file, such as this one for the family dance novelty dances.
3) Launch the ABC software, then open any ABC file, such as the one you just downloaded. (FILE menu, OPEN -- like many other programs).
There's a table of contents on the left.
Click on a title and it displays the written music (as well as the code).
Most of the tunes have the chords included above the musical staff, so you can create chord charts.
You can also print the written music, and play the tune so you can hear how it should sound.
It's pretty self-evident, but if you enjoy instructions, scroll down the EasyABC site (where you downloaded the program).
Don't worry about entering and editing code (unless you're interested) -- just scroll down to the instructions for printing and playback.
